旧ソ連の親欧米国グルジアからの分離独立を主張する南オセチア自治州の州都ツヒンバリで7日夜、グルジア軍が戦車部隊や空軍機などによる攻撃を強めました。これに対し、分離独立派を支持するロシアは8日、グルジアへの軍増派を開始し、武力衝突が激化しました。
